Here's the latest in walking, biking, and transit news from the last week or so for Waterloo Region.

What's happening

• BIKE ROUTES: The City of Kitchener is developing Route 3 from Sunrise Centre to Fairway Station. Residents are invited to provide comments and feedback about the route by October 12. Staff will also conduct a workshop on wheels on Sunday, October 4, from 2 to 3:30pm, starting at Sunrise terminal. (EngageWR)
• MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS: Elections for city, township, region, and school boards will be on October 26. You can support candidates you'd like to see in office by volunteering, taking a sign, or donating.
  • A CivicTechWR project called Waterloo Region Votes aggregates information for voters about local municipal elections.
  • Recordings are now available for all Cambridge election town halls (Cambridge Elects)
  • CBC: Cambridge residents can be 1st in region to cast their municipal election ballots starting Saturday. Kitchener to offer drive-thru and curbside options to voters

Walking, biking, and streets

• CityNews Kitchener: Waterloo Region school boards comment on possible e-scooter, e-bike ban
• CityNews Toronto: Licence plate detecting cameras to be installed by police on freeways in Waterloo Region
• A local man still bikes with the Kitchener Easy Riders Cycle Club at the age of 92 (The Guardian)

Transit

• The Record: Waterloo Region adding more transit priority lanes for buses. Fischer-Hallman corridor to be the focus of GRT’s 2027/2028 transit priority program.
• There will be no Kitchener Line train service at Kitchener GO on the weekend of October 3-4, and schedules will also be adjusted on October 5th and 6th. (GO Transit)
