What's happening
- HEADLIGHTS: Transport Canada is conducting a survey of all road users on headlight glare.
- JANE’S WALKS: Mark your calendars for Jane’s Walks being held across Waterloo Region on May 1–3. Registration is also still open to lead a Jane’s Walk (or ride!). (Jane’s Walk WR).
Walking, biking, and streets
- After pushback by Woolwich Township Council and the Downtown Elmira BIA against removing parking to enable safe bike lanes, the Region of Waterloo’s reconstruction of Arthur Street in Elmira will no longer include bike lanes (EngageWR).
- A 12-year-old cyclist was seriously injured by a turning pickup truck driver at University / Woolwich. The driver was charged. The child’s parents were also charged for the child not wearing a helmet; reports do not specify a relation to the injuries sustained (CTV News, The Record)
- The Record: Trips on e-scooters, e-bikes down 25% in Waterloo Region. But ridership trends are relatively stable, says program operator.
