Michael,

Can we count on your support, and as a speaker before council on Monday evening?

Michael,
Nicely written with lots of good ideas. The social stigma of riding a bus -- much less when associated with an LRT -- makes it very challenging indeed to attract new passangers to any bus beyond mostly students and the working poor. Initial financial incentives (if realizable), more convenient stops and greater frequency will help somewhat, but likely will not succeed sufficiently such as to transform Cadan Inc.'s current plan. What might help somewhat more would be the green renovation of the 4 buildings of concern and the rest of the block into into residences -- appropriate for those working in the main building -- with an underground garage (1 car space per residence). Also the coop car group could be offered space to park some of their cars on the site for when a family occasionally needs a second car. This might make possible a smaller underground parking garage for the larger building which would be more affordable for Cadan. Further the encouragement of working from home 3 or 4 days per week from more distant dwellings (including the use of meeting software such as Go To Meeting) could further decrease the need for parking space. But down with the (nostalgic?) chimney, a reminder of a time of great local pollution! If we are lucky(!), maybe our increasingly turbulent weather will bring a tornado to do the job for free.
